Discipleship = Investing your life

We see that when Jesus made his disciples, he spent time with them...and the closer his disciples were, the more time he spent.
The bible mentions more than just the 12 disciples, although those were his closest and most intímate. The gospels mention on occasion that Jesus sent 60 of his disciples out to preach and heal the sick. We see, however, the more time he spent with them, in his daily life, eating, sharing, spending time, the closer they were, and the more they learned and shared his heart and mission.
The most effective way to make disciples is not once a week on Sundays, from the pulpit. That is a very important part of our Christian walk, and one not to be taken lightly, as it says in the word "Not forsaken the gathering together of the saints, as some have become accustomed."
However, when we take Christ's example of spending time, sharing our life with those who walk with us, as we disciple them, we open up a whole new door to the power of discipleship. After all, is this not the way to become a disciple of our Lord? If we only spend time with God at church, can we truly be considered his disciples? Is it not necessary to daily spend time with Him, when we wake up, throughout the day, sharing our joys and pains, thanking Him for the food he has provided, and closing the day out with prayer of thankfulness, does not this reflect the true dependence a disciple of Jesus needs in our daily walk here on earth?
Even so, must we disciple those God has put in our paths, as we are discipled by our Lord. Sharing meals together, phone calls in troubled and hurting times, praying together, rejoicing together in the victories and happiness of our lives...this is the tried and true manner in which we must disciple!
Who are you discipling this year?
